As far as make up goes, I don't like to wear a lot of it and I go many days without any at all. I do, however, have my staples that I can't live without! On the days when I am blessed with both girls napping or otherwise engaged, I am thrilled to actually do my hair and put on just a bit of make up.
Before kids though, I was able to get myself ready for work everyday and have fun with different products. I have been in love with M.A.C cosmetics since the first time I was shopping at the Atrium in Chestnut Hill, MA, (way, way, way back when) stopped in to browse, and got convinced, by a very enthusiastic and over the top male make up artist to do a makeover. He had his eye make up done like a peacock, and blue and green streaks in his hair to match. But he sparkled and shined and looked "fabulous!" He did the most amazing makeover, and I was convinced that the make up was magical.
Skip forward about 10 years to my wedding. I had been in my friend Erica's wedding about two years prior and she had used a fantastic M.A.C make up artist, named Bunny, to do the wedding her make up and the wedding party. She rocked! Bunny was from the M.A.C counter in the Macy's in the Natick Collection. (Or to those of us who grew up in the area, the Natick MALL. CHECK OUT THIS VIDEO OF THE ORIGINAL MALL! Remember the fountain that turned colors and the Woolworths that so many of us went in to take pictures in the photo booth? How cool! I have pics of all my old friends and my one high school boyfriend in that booth!) Anyhow, after Bunny did such a great job with Erica's wedding, I decided to hire her for my own. And, she and her cousin came to my Mom's house in Wayland, on the morning of my wedding and did my makeup, along with almost all 11 of my bridesmaids, my two flower girls, and some of my family. And everyone looked gorgeous!
Now, three and a half years and two babies after my wedding, I am still in love with M.A.C cosmetics!
My favorite items, and I own them all are:
Penultimate Eye Liner (a black liquid eye liner that is amazing)
Nylon Frost Eye Shadow (My fav... Just a light frost! Been wearing it for years!)
Plush Lash Mascara in Plushblack (I have no lashes, so this is great to make it seem like I do)
Brow Set in Clear (Tame the Lame eye brows)
Prep and Prime Eye in Medium for under your shadow to smooth and remove creases
Retrospeck lustre eye shadow (Love this for a more subtle look)
Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation in NW30 I HATE foundation and don't use it, but this is a powder form that is light and covers blemishes and shine. I love this. And best part is, it doesn't make me break out!
Sheertone Shimmer Powder in Trace Gold for highlighting above cheek bones

When I went through my dramatic phase in my early twenties, I always wore MAC Dubonnet lipstick. It's a very glamorous dark red. Now in my early thirties, I still wear it sometimes, but just dabbed over gloss for a more subtle look.
ReplyDeleteI never tried MAC makeup. I have many friends who are die hard MAC fans!I would love to try this eyeliner that comes in a pot with a little brush to apply. My friend uses it and she always looks perfect. It never smudges or flakes. I would try that one if I could.
ReplyDeleteMake up isn't a big part of my life these days either! Mascara and lip gloss are the things I use most often. I'd definitely try out MAC's Lipgelee!
ReplyDeleteI adore MAC too! I only wear MAC eyeshadows - they have the best colors and they're so long-lasting. My favorites are All That Glitters and Satellite Dreams.
ReplyDeleteI only wear MAC make up as well. I think it's amazing! I've tried many different make up brands, but MAC is by far the best. Currently for blush I alternate between Sunbasque and Blushbaby. Their foundation is amazing! I use NC20 and what I love about it is that it's not heavy so you don't look like you have it pancaked on, but it's still got amazing coverage.
ReplyDeleteI posted a comment earlier..not sure where it went.. 2 MUST HAVE'S from MAC I believe are the PREP & PRIME REFINED ZONE PRIMER and their SET POWDER... two perfect items to "START" and "FINISH" your makeup. I love them to pieces and use them both when I'm doing my makeup for a night out! FLAWLESS makeup!! Love it!

My staple is the clear lip glass though! the MAC eye make up remover is the only kind that doesn't irritate my eyes!
