Boston Aardvarks Children's Music Classes Review and Giveaway

One of the most wonderful things I did with my daughter Brynn was to sign her up for a children's music class when she was 6 months old. I remember bringing her into the first class in her car seat carrier and she couldn't even sit up yet, so she just sat there in her carrier and watched the rest of us dance and sing around. I wondered what in the world she could be getting out of it... Was this class for me or her?

But we continued to go once a week, and soon she was sitting up and laughing and clapping, and then she was crawling and playing with the musical instruments and colorful handkerchiefs, and before long she was walking and dancing and interacting with all of the other kids in the class.

And now she is 2 years and 9 months old and we still go faithfully once a week and now it is Reese that comes in a carrier. Brynn now knows the words to every single song, she talks all week about going to music class, and each time we get into the car she asks me to turn on her music CD before I can even put the keys in the ignition. She makes up her own songs for everything and she loves to make any toy into a musical instrument. She has a great sense of rhythm and loves to dance. I truly attribute all of these wonderful creative abilities and interests to bringing her to a children's music class and starting her so young. She may have just been sitting there in the beginning, but she took in and absorbed every bit.

Reese arrives on the music class scene :)

If you are a parent of a child under 6, you probably know all about Nick Jr. (formerly Noggin) and if you feel like I do sometimes, you know too much! :) I think I know more songs by The Laurie Berkner Band, The Fresh Beat Band and other various children's artists than I do when I turn on 92.9. "I got, I got, I got, I got, you got, you got, you got, you got, we got, we got, we got, we got LOCO LEGS..."

One of these fabulous artists that is featured on Nick Jr. is David Weinstone.  You know "Taxi, taxi, riding in the back seat. Roll the windows up, roll the windows down. Put the money in the slot. See you later, thanks a lot. Sure beats walking 'round town." Brynn and I love that song! Did you know that David Weinstone has his own children's music program?

Music for Aardvarks and Other Mammals is a children's music program that was started by David Weinstone in 1997 in Brooklyn, New York. It is a fabulous program that is based on songs written by David Weinstone himself, that include all genres of music. What I love about this program is that it is relaxed, informal and most of all super fun! The songs are upbeat and fun to sing, and sometimes even silly! They are about things that kids can understand and actually relate to... Things that kids want to sing about!

The coolest part is that David Weinstone has paired up with musical talents from other cities and lucky for those of us who live in Massachusetts, there are Boston Aardvarks classes right here in Natick, Newton and Needham! Stacey Peasley, of Stacey Peasley Children's Music, is the incredibly fun, energetic and engaging teacher of the Boston "chapter." Stacey is a mother of two who has been performing in theaters and public venues for children of all ages since 2005. Stacey was recently chosen for Nickelodeon's Parent Connect Parent Picks Awards 2010 for party entertainer in Boston.

Stacey at one of her recent concerts:

A Boston Aardvarks Class:

We loved, loved, loved this class! Stacey uses all sorts of props with the kids and keeps them moving and dancing and singing. We had instruments, bubbles, handkerchiefs, egg shakers, a parachute, and much more. She is amazingly interactive and the children are captivated by her enthusiasm and beautiful voice.

I highly recommend this class for parents who are considering a music program for their children, and prefer a more informal, fun, and energetic atmosphere. For more information on the Boston Aardvark Classes, visit the website at http://www.staceypeasley.com/aardvarks/index.html

For the giveaway, Stacey Peasley is giving a $25.00 off discount to the winner of the drawing towards the enrollment of their child in a music session. All you have to do is visit the website above and then comment below telling me one thing you liked about the website.

The drawing will be done on Friday the 17th at 5:00pm. Good luck!!!

M.A.C Cosmetics Review and Giveaway

As far as make up goes, I don't like to wear a lot of it and I go many days without any at all. I do, however, have my staples that I can't live without! On the days when I am blessed with both girls napping or otherwise engaged, I am thrilled to actually do my hair and put on just a bit of make up.

Before kids though, I was able to get myself ready for work everyday and have fun with different products. I have been in love with M.A.C cosmetics since the first time I was shopping at the Atrium in Chestnut Hill, MA, (way, way, way back when) stopped in to browse, and got convinced, by a very enthusiastic and over the top male make up artist to do a makeover. He had his eye make up done like a peacock, and blue and green streaks in his hair to match. But he sparkled and shined and looked "fabulous!" He did the most amazing makeover, and I was convinced that the make up was magical.

Skip forward about 10 years to my wedding. I had been in my friend Erica's wedding about two years prior  and she had used a fantastic M.A.C make up artist, named Bunny, to do the wedding her make up and the wedding party. She rocked! Bunny was from the M.A.C counter in the Macy's in the Natick Collection. (Or to those of us who grew up in the area, the Natick MALL. CHECK OUT THIS VIDEO OF THE ORIGINAL MALL! Remember the fountain that turned colors and the Woolworths that so many of us went in to take pictures in the photo booth? How cool! I have pics of all my old friends and my one high school boyfriend in that booth!) Anyhow, after Bunny did such a great job with Erica's wedding, I decided to hire her for my own. And, she and her cousin came to my Mom's house in Wayland, on the morning of my wedding and did my makeup, along with almost all 11 of my bridesmaids, my two flower girls, and some of my family. And everyone looked gorgeous!

Now, three and a half years and two babies after my wedding, I am still in love with M.A.C cosmetics!

My favorite items, and I own them all are:

Penultimate Eye Liner (a black liquid eye liner that is amazing)

Nylon Frost Eye Shadow (My fav... Just a light frost! Been wearing it for years!)

Plush Lash Mascara in Plushblack (I have no lashes, so this is great to make it seem like I do)

Brow Set in Clear (Tame the Lame eye brows)

Prep and Prime Eye in Medium for under your shadow to smooth and remove creases

Retrospeck lustre eye shadow (Love this for a more subtle look)

Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation in NW30 I HATE foundation and don't use it, but this is a powder form that is light and covers blemishes and shine. I love this. And best part is, it doesn't make me break out!

Sheertone Shimmer Powder in Trace Gold for highlighting above cheek bones

Powder blush in Honour Frost for contouring below cheek bones

Studio Finish Concealer in NW25

Studio Moisture Cream The best ever because you wont break out from it!

275 Medium Angled Brush for For applying and blending eye shadow.

228 Mini Shader Brush for applying eye primer and concealer.

129SH Powder/Blush Brush for powder and blush.

Dazzleglass Lipcolour in Sugarrimmed, LOVE this!

Nail Lacquer in Earthly Harmony. It is more of a subtle glitter look than in this pic

Maya J Accessories Review and Giveaway

UPDATE!!!! We are now extending the giveaway... The winner will receive ANY item chosen from the Maya J Accessories site!

My favorite place to shop for hair accessories for Brynn, Reese, and even myself, is the Maya J Accessories boutique on Etsy! All of the items are fabulous! There are clips, headbands, sun hats, knit hats, crotched hats, and more... All of which are adorned with gorgeous handmade flowers and rhinestones and/or pearls or other gorgeous goodies. It is any girl's dream come true!

Everything is very well made, with high quality materials and very affordable. My kids are very rough on them, and we have yet to have anything fall apart!

Here is a picture of my sweet Reese wearing the Pink Cotton Infant Hat with Geranium Flowers.

Seriously, can you get any cuter than that hat for a teeny-tiny?

Here is Brynn wearing her favorite one! The Crochet Headband with Purple Hydrangea Flowers

I have also had two over-sized flower clips custom made, to throw in on the side when I put my hair back. One is black with a large rhinestone in the center and the other is cream colored and all sparkles. I love them to dress up any outfit! Maya J Accessories will accommodate most custom orders happily, which I LOVE about a shop because it really proves that things are specially handmade!

Brynn is starting preschool on September 14th at Sunny Hill Preschool in Sudbury, MA. We recently went to a little outdoor play date at the school playground so that the kids could get to meet some of the other children that will be in their class. Here is a picture of Sean and Reese looking on... Reese is wearing a sun hat made by Maya J.

Brynn also wore a Maya J accessory... These are my favorite and both of the girls have them! Done as a headband or a clip, it is a white daisy with a black button adorned with a crystal monogram! Check it out... Clearly this is not a good photo, as she had been running around and playing all morning, but you get the picture. This is her "B" clip and Reese has an "R" and below is the "M" for Maya featured on the site.

The coolest thing about Maya J Accessories right now, is that for each order placed on or before September 30th for a cotton/knit hat, they will donate one to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute for a child who is fighting Cancer and has lost her hair.

Here is the GIVEAWAY!!!!

Maya J Accessories has agreed to give away a free cotton/knit hat in infant or toddler size,  to the winner of my drawing. Here is the gorgeous hat... You know you want it! :) Adorable for fall!
